Cubic yards and bags of mulch for a bed. Change the numbers and the answer updates; the starting values are only an example.
How it is worked out
- Volume in cubic feet is length times width times depth, with the depth divided by 12.
- Cubic yards are cubic feet divided by 27.
- The bag count is the volume divided by the size on the bag, rounded up.
Worked example
With the starting values, a bed 15 ft by 4 ft and 3 inches deep is 15 cubic feet, which is 0.56 cubic yards. At 2 cubic feet per bag that is 8 bags.
Good to know
- For a curved bed, split it into rectangles and add the results.
- Bulk delivery is sold in cubic yards.
- Fields marked as read from the label have no built-in value you should trust: products differ, so use the number on yours.
