Square feet and boxes of flooring for a room. Change the numbers and the answer updates; the starting values are only an example.
How it is worked out
- Floor area is length times width.
- The extra percentage is added for cuts, mistakes and pattern matching.
- The box count is the area with extra divided by the coverage on the box, rounded up.
Worked example
With the starting values, a room 14 ft by 12 ft is 168 square feet, or 184.8 square feet with 10% extra. At 20 square feet per box that is 10 boxes.
Good to know
- For an L-shaped room, split it into rectangles and add the areas.
- Diagonal layouts waste more than straight ones.
- Fields marked as read from the label have no built-in value you should trust: products differ, so use the number on yours.
