How it is worked out

  1. Volume in cubic feet is length times width times depth, with the depth divided by 12.
  2. Cubic yards are cubic feet divided by 27, then the extra percentage is added.
  3. Tons need a weight per cubic yard, which depends on the stone and how wet it is, so ask the supplier.

Worked example

With the starting values, a bed 20 ft by 10 ft and 4 inches deep is 66.67 cubic feet, which is 2.59 cubic yards with 5% extra. Add your supplier's weight per cubic yard to get tons.
